ways to cope with Christmas
Christmas is a strange time of year for many people , and for those going through Infertility issues it can be a mixed blessing . So many expectations of everything being "perfect " , the emphasis on a "traditional " family ( whatever that is anyway ! ) etc can all make for a real pressure cooker of emotions .
So how can we help ourselves through the festive season ?
BE REALISTIC
Firstly lower those expectations , Christmas doesnt have to be perfect , and actually for most people it isnt ! See it for what it is , a time of the year , an event that will pass all too quickly ,or simply a religious festival . It really doesnt have to be perfect and neither do you !
PLANNING IN TIME FOR YOURSELF
Secondly plan ahead . Look at your schedule and see if it is too busy , and especially busy with stuff that you are not actually that into ! Fertility issues can demand a lot of our focus and energy , and its important that you are taking good care of yourself in what can be quite a rushed time .
PLAN IN THE THINGS THAT HELP
Plan in lots of the things that you need right now , stuff that going to help you through .Seeing one or two key friends who you can offload to , keeping up with your message board friends , a massage , doing some fertility research ...or even purposefully doing nothing related to the whole fertility process . Only you will know whats helping you at the moment , think of your top 3 or 4 things and make sure they are in the diary !
HELPING OTHERS
Christmas can be a tough time for many people for various reasons . Nothing will make your experience any less important , but sometimes doing something to help just one other person at this time can be a help in and of itself .
Above all treat yourself well . Infertility plus Christmas can be a difficult mix , so anything and everything that could help , give to yourself as one of your best presents of the season .
