New research out yesterday from Orlando florida has confirmed what so many couples have known for some time . That men going through Infertility with the male factor as the main issue ( rather than female factors or problems with both parties ) experience higher levels of emotional and social distress .
Male infertility can be completely crippling to a mans self esteem and sense of worth . Added to this that it is often harder to find male counsellors in this area , and thus more difficult to find appropriate support .
And yet support certainly is needed . Again I would reccomend the Kite clinic in terms of some excellent facilities for men to find support . But also to contact BICA ( the british infertility counselling association ) to see what support may be available nearby .
Online fertility chat rooms can also be helpful as a resource to know that feelings are normal , and that statistically you are not alone .
I strongly believe there is a need for greater support and encouragement in this area .

There is often an extra layer of guilt and a very deep sense of failure as a man for those couples whose infertility stems mainly from male factors . For us it was key to do everything to stay strong as a couple and one of the most helpful things for my husband was , after quite some time , to go to counselling himself and talk it out . We found that external people were able to give a lot more perspective than we could give each other . Sometimes it can all just get a bit too intense so a third party could be so helpful
