Its been a week ( and yes it is only wednesday ..! ) of Infertility in the news . Stories of Embryo mix ups , reports on stress and infertility and a report from the Royal college of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists re womens age and Infertility .
I did a radio interview about the ethics of Embryo transfers and how safe the clinics are ,for a station on Monday . The information was handlled really well I thought by the presenters and the other guest speaker was fantastic as a medically trained person at reassuring listeners as to the rarity of this particular case .
However I came away again with the painful thought that to so many people , reading the newspapers , watching the TV programmes etc , these stories can remain just that ..stories . Things to observe and pass comment on rather than truly to wonder what that must be like .
Infertility so often in the public is misunderstood and seen in black and whites . For those experiencing it however it is all too often lived out in shades of grey . Uncertainty , hopefulness, dissapointment , highs and lows and what ifs .
For all of us who have been touched by Infertility , I hope this week is a good one and that the media interest in this most important of topics generates a little more compassion and sensitivity .
